Winter can be cruel for our hair and skin. There’s nothing nicer than stretching your legs for a winter’s walk and then warming up in front of the fire but the constant changes in temperature can take its toll on the moisture levels of our hair and skin.

If you feel like you’re constantly reaching for the moisturiser for your hands or body during the coldest months, your hair will likely be suffering too and in desperate need of some added moisture.

Here are some easy winter hair care tips to help repair your locks:

  1. Use a moisturising shampoo and conditioner
Rich in natural glycerin and infused with shea butter, broccoli seed oil and aloe vera, our favourite moisturising duo has to be All In – Moist Shampoo and All In – Moist Conditioner by Nine Yards UK. Both are perfect for dry, coarse or curly hair in need of extensive moisturising without leaving the hair greasy, it’s 100% vegan and free from parabens, sulphates and MIT. Perfect.
  1. Use a hair mask once a week
To give your hair the moisture it’s lacking, try adding a hair mask to your routine. Never Dull – Repair Treatment by Nine Yards UK is an intense treatment designed to provide a reconstructing and strengthening effect for damaged hair. It has a protein-rich formula to add manageability and restore to full strength and is ideal for dry, damaged or chemically treated hair. Just like the shampoo and conditioner, it’s free from parabens, sulphates and MIT.
  1. Wash your hair less often
By washing your hair frequently, you’re washing away a natural oil called sebum, which helps to keep your hair naturally hydrated which will ultimately dry out your hair and scalp. On the final day before you wash your hair, give it a spritz of dry shampoo, such as Dark Spark by Nine Yards UK to help keep it looking fresh for longer.
  1. Invest in a silk pillowcase
It may sound like an unnecessary luxury but silk pillowcases can be hugely beneficial for your hair and skin. During the night, your hair causes friction against the pillow as you toss and turn which can lead to split ends. The natural properties of silk help stop the friction and will reduce damage to your hair.
  1. Turn down the temperature

We all know how tempting it is to dive straight into a hot shower at the end of a chilly day, but water that is too hot will strip your hair and skin of natural oils and cause it to dry out. It also causes your hair to become brittle, so try to keep your showers at an average temperature instead of super hot.
