Hypnotic help for hairdressers
Barrie Stephen will be hosting a team training session with a difference on both Friday 11th and 18th July – when his stylists will be treated to an introductory session with a registered hypnotherapist.
Hairdressers at Barrie Stephen Hair will be learning all about the benefits of hypnosis as a way to overcome bad habits and phobias when James Parker, a member of the General Hypnotherapy Register, and specialist in helping people stop smoking, visits the Anstey and King Street Barrie Stephen salons. After starting work in alcohol and drug counselling in 1992, James Parker gradually got involved in hypnosis work and has been offering private hypnotherapy services for seven years. Mr Parker will be talking to the stylists about the power of hypnosis as a force to rewrite the conscious and subconscious minds in a positive way. One stylist who has already experienced the benefits of this is Neil Smith, a senior consultant at the Anstey salon:
“I was a bit sceptical at first about hypnotism, but I was desperate to give up smoking and so when Barrie offered to pay for hypnotherapy, I thought I’d give it a try. Since having the treatment I’ve never looked back and haven’t had a single cigarette!”
The sessions with James Parker are part of Barrie Stephen’s Fit for Business concept, where stylists’ sense of wellbeing are boosted through a series of informative health and fitness training and personal development education. The aim is to help staff feel better about themselves and their health which then promotes the health of the salon business. To date it has been a great success.
“Hairdressing is a fantastic career for creative expression, growth and opportunity, but can be hard on health.” Barrie explains, “I wanted to take a proactive approach to encouraging my growing salon team by giving my employees the tools, time and motivation to really take control of their health whilst at work.
“I regularly hold training days with a variety of health and fitness experts, as it’s when my staff are feeling positive and healthy that I see the best results in the salon.”
Since January, the Fit for Business programme has looked at topics such as stress management, injury prevention and healthy eating. Most recently the salon has employed its own personal trainer, Ian Roberts from the Carlton Park Next Generation gym, who is on hand to advise team members about any concerns they may have about pain management, nutrition or working on their feet all day.
